Joanna D’Angelo spent most of her career working for the United Nations. Her first assignment was in Rome and this is where she met her American husband, Joseph, a medical student at the University of Rome. Although Joanna had never dreamed of coming to America, she came willingly for her new husband and the prospects of a position with the United Nations Development Programme as assistant to the Head of the Arab States Department. She remained in this post for many years and then transferred to a programming post with the newly formed department that was assisting the Central and Eastern European countries and the former Soviet Union in managing their fledgling democracies. In 2000, Joanna reconnected with her childhood friend, Judith Gifford, who she had not seen for many years but had heard much about her and her husband Nick’s move from England to the North of France, and the switch in their careers from film makers to Marmalade makers and that they had in fact just been discovered by one of the world’s most famous chef-cuisiniers, Alain Ducasse. Judith suggested that Joanna might be interested in helping to introduce Tea Together’s Jams and Marmalades into the United States. Although extremely dubious at first, once she tasted it, she promptly took early retirement from the United Nations and jumped into the role of importer / distributor of Tea Together in the USA. Joanna feels that her years of experience in the UN handling many logistical tasks, and close interaction with colleagues of different cultures are essential skills in running a small company working only with artisanal producers, and where attention to every detail is crucial to ensure that the products make it safely from the farm in France to major clients in the USA |
